Bristol Maritime
Center
project description
The Town of Bristol, Rhode Island received a federal matching grant totaling $3.6 Million to rehab and renovate the historic armory built in 1894. The facility is a maritime center for boaters visiting Bristol Harbor. The facility houses the Bristol Harbor Masters office and has new state of the art bathrooms and showers along with full laundry, lounge with wi-fi and charging stations. The exterior of the building had extensive rehabilitation to the stone façade utilizing a state of the art stone stabilization process.
Bristol Harbor has long been a welcoming stopover for boaters, thanks in large part to its vibrant waterfront steeped in history. But since the town’s Maritime Center opened in 2016, it has experienced an explosion in popularity. The walls of the Maritime Center are adorned with the work of local artists, and the 4,000-square-foot multi-purpose hall accommodates nonprofit events and galas.
GMI collaborated with historic preservation architect, JHLtecture, Contractor James P. Tavaras, Construction, and Project Manager, Keough Construction Management.
